Industry Talks

Insights from Alumni in Industry

Heidelberg, 25th March 2025

In March 2025, the SIAM Student Chapter Heidelberg and the Fellow Speakers of HGS MathComp jointly organized the Insights from Alumni in Industry 2025 event. The event featured a series of talks by Heidelberg University alumni now working in various industrial fields.

Jan Wenzel (Sanofi) opened the afternoon with insights into computational toxicology models in pharmaceutical research. Eva-Maria Didden (Johnson & Johnson) shared her personal journey from statistics studies at LMU Munich to rare disease epidemiology at Johnson & Johnson in Basel, highlighting her time at HGS MathComp in Heidelberg. After a coffee break, Markus Blatt (HPC-Simulation-Software & Services) discussed his transition from scientific computing education to founding his own open-source HPC service company. Maximilian Scheurer (Covestro) concluded the talks with a presentation on his current work in industry.

The event provided not only valuable perspectives on various career paths after a PhD but also the chance to engage directly with the speakers during the coffee break and the informal get-together that followed.
