Chapter Merger
Dear Fellow Student Chapter Members and Friends,
We are happy to announce that the Heidelberg University SIAM Student Chapter has successfully applied to also become a recognized GAMM Student Chapter.
You don't know the GAMM (Gesellschaft für Angewante Mathematik & Mechanik e.V.) yet? Or you have been on and off looking to participate in some post-grad structure? Come join us for our big Kick-Off event on May 23rd (food and drinks are on us ;) )
Additionaly, we send out a special invite to all the all master's and PhD students in applied mathematics, computer science, mechanics, and related fields to this event.
📅 When: Thursday, 23rd May 2025 at 2:30 PM
📍 Where: Mathematikon, Conference Room (5th floor)
Why join?
- Learn about the new GAMM chapter and how you can benefit.
- Prof. Dr. Claudia Schillings (GAMM Board Member) is going to deliver an enticing presentation about her career and her research.

Introduction (To be Updated)
Who is SIAM and what is a Student Chapter?
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) "is an international community of over 14,000 individual members. Almost 500 academic, manufacturing, research and development, service and consulting organizations, government, and military organizations worldwide are institutional members. SIAM was incorporated in 1952 as a nonprofit organization to convey useful mathematical knowledge to other professionals who could implement mathematical theory for practical, industrial, or scientific use. Since then, SIAM’s goals have remained the same:
- To advance the application of mathematics and computational science to engineering, industry, science, and society.
- To promote research that will lead to effective new mathematical and computational methods and techniques for science, engineering, industry, and society.
- To provide media for the exchange of information and ideas among mathematicians, engineers, and scientists."
Among a plethora of activities such as publishing journals and organizing conferences, it supports autonomous student chapters around the world that, locally and focusing on the undergraduate and graduate level, help to advance its mission.
The Heidelberg Student Chapter was founded in 2012 and since then has organized numerous talks from industry representatives, field trips to businesses and other events such as science slams, tools seminars, and many more. Check out our archive of past events in order to get an impression of the range of our activities!
SIAM Student Chapters do not exist in isolation but form a lively community. We exchange event invitations, meet on- and offline and organize joint workshops and symposia. In the past, we collaborated amongst others with the Chapters of Aachen, Hamburg, Magdeburg, Potsdam, Prague and Trier.
